Delhi and nearby areas are choking up. The air pollution index is shining. Who stands responsible for this, Vehicles, Parali, Industries or all of them?
In my mind, these are just the stems. The root cause is population. There is no doubt that Delhi is densely populated in one hand and on the others, it is also a hub for small and mid-level industries though we can't say that there is a dearth of manufacturing superstars.
We just need to understand the basics of this kind of pollution before blaming the government alone.
Certainly, the government of Delhi has failed to show its will to fight with pollution hence, the lifeline of Delhi; The Yamuna has not been decorated so far. The fix are confined to just odd-even and blame game.
But more importantly, we also need to understand that the capital is situated on the plains that are considered to be notorious for dirt of very fine particles of soil in the atmosphere. As winter progresses, gradually the sunshine becomes fade up, with a weak flow of ground air which is why the particles mixed up with smoke forms a foggy environment and the air required for living deteriorates.
The season up with parali burning but no firm action by neighboring states. They feel Delhi as a Ramleela ground; have a chance for fun. Every year, Delhi is being sacked by air pollution during these days but no one is ready to learn a lesson. Indeed, Parali plays a devil's role in this pollution.
Ignorance of pollution control board
We know how people get clearance for setting up an industry. It's all messy. But I am not concerned with what is the clearance process, rather I expect from this department to ensure that the industries follow the guidelines and periodical check-ups. This department must see a personality like Kiran Bedi.
Walk more, bicycle more and be utility driven
A disaster can't be anticipated without public participation. It's not only about pollution. It's about your health also. People should revive their lungs by walking and bicycling. Use of public transport more and more not only saves the environment but energy too.
Identification and development of Eco manufacturing zones
Clustering production units in Delhi and in nearby areas is also of paramount importance. The center and states must join hands in this long term goal.
Plantation worth a lot
Neem, Peepal and banyan trees have a great potential to bring down the pollution index. The government and the public must plant these trees in a mission mode. Even, hanging plants, rooftop and balconies plants should be given preference, especially in official buildings.
Warehousing solutions - out of the city
By doing this, Delhi should limit the heavy vehicles not getting inside.
However, all the measures contribute to a large extent in controlling air pollution but if there is no population control there will be no relief. Because You are born to take Oxygen and release carbon dioxide. Delhi is today's victim but soon each and every corner of India will be. Be in the limit, control population. Have some population control policy......!!!
