For the last 1 month, India is witnessing a serenity crisis.
The news headlines on article 370 and Pakistan encroachment on Kashmir have
been wiped out. People have a new concern over NRC and CAB. Nationwide,
debates, protests, clarifications are taking off. The developmental activities
are getting paralyzed and unrest continues. The leadership is rigid to enforce
these laws due to its long-term proliferation.
The NRC has become an Indian law on December 4, 2019, after it
was passed by both the houses. Similarly, the CAB has enacted on December 11,
2019. As soon as these laws have moved forward, nationwide protests and
agitation came into notoriety. Clashes among police and public evidently
resulted in the length and breadth of the country.
The country leaders moved on to bestowing the directions of
the disruptions as per their agendas. Media houses got another chance to
increase their TRPs. In between, the original motive of uprisings declined and
the entire episode has gone abrupt.
For some, it is an opportunity to defy the government and
for many, it's a basis for expressing their obsessed psyches.
But,
What about the national interest?
Who will think about it?
Are we in a position to confront such atrocities now?
The answer is a big NO. The country's economic and bilateral
circumstances are complicated nowadays. We are falling over GDP, employment,
and overall growth. On the other hand, we have intense relations grown up with
our neighbors.
At this moment, it is very important for everyone to
honestly check out the facts and figures about NRC and CAB.
What is 2019 NRC?
First of all, we need to understand that NRC is not a new
manifestation. It is present in India since 1955. Basically, it's a register in
which information pertaining to the Indian citizens is being captured and
maintained by the government. It is implemented in the state of Assam first in
2013. During the period of NRC enforcement in Assam, out of 3.29 crores people
that applied for the inclusion of their names in the register, only 2.9 crores
were found eligible.
Confident of the outcome, now the government is planning to
implement it across the country. It is also made that the local authorities
like magistrates at the district level can probe into the citizenship issues by
setting up the tribunals. People have to prove their ancestry before 1971. The
HM also clarified that those found not eligible will be treated as per the
International migrant's law and deported to their respective countries.
Sometimes before, we have seen that illegal immigration in
the USA has been a great concern for the Trump administration. However, the
Indian illegal immigration scenario is much more different and can be termed as
an infiltration. As per an estimate, in the USA there, live 10.5 to 12 million
or 3.2% to 3.6% undocumented people from neighboring Mexico, Central America,
and Asia. In India, the numbers might be shocking to the tune of 50 million in
which Bangladeshi illegal immigrants are prime.
It is also worrisome that some sections of the political
denominations have been taking advantage of such a situation for political
gains and helped turn the illegal migrants to the citizens of India.
What is 2019 CAB?
Citizenship Amendment Bill introduced by the government in
Parliament with first reading on December 9, 2019. Basically, it is an
amendment to the Citizenship Act 1955. With new modifications, it is made easy
to give citizenship to those that are living with the status of the refugees in
India. Most of them belong to the native congregations of India. The Hindus,
the Sikhs, the Parsis, and the Christians will be provided with the Indian
citizenship status.
Indeed, every state has the right to take account of its
citizens. A government has to step up for the well-being of its citizens. The
developed nations have a very accurate policies to deal with the undocumented
settlers. Further, they possess much sharp data on illegal migrants. The
society always discourages such infiltration and cut them off from the
mainstream lifestyle. India, on the verge of change, should also need the
illegal migrant’s data and strong policy to deal with.
