Indian Politics: Delhi State Assembly Exit Polls Indicating A Glitch In The BJP Leadership

BJP Vs. AAP

Finally, Delhiites have chosen AAP over BJP as exit polls suggest. It’s a question of immense importance that why BJP always failed in Delhi state assembly polls despite a commanding performance in the rest of India. It's not extra to say that PM Modi holds an awesome position in Indian Politics. People have faith, trust and respect in him. He has the power to turn the lost battle into a winning game.

Delhi state Assembly elections have not been witnessing PM Modi’s charismatic supremacy. It is also strange that in the Lok Sabha elections people didn’t leave BJP and Modi; given a huge mandate. So, what are the reasons for 2020 underperformance?

We will dig into it step by step:

AAP Image Vs. BJP’s Slogans- ‘5 Sal Dilli Behal, Ab nahi chahiye Kejriwal’, ‘ Kejriwal Atankwadi hai’, ‘Desh ke gaddaron ko, goli maro salon ko’ are some of the popular slogans/remarks Delhiites heard close to elections. They also heard ‘Agar maine kam nahi kiya to mujhe vote mat dena’ came as a challenge for BJP to which it had no answers. During close days of any election, one should refrain from such slogans and remarks that can arouse public feelings.

Awesome AAP Achievements- AAP leaders repeatedly announced from the open stage that when they came in the power, they have a budget of Rs. 41129 crore and it becomes Rs. 60000 today. This growth story left BJP stunned. The AAP leaders gained the faith and favor of Delhiites.

Additionally, every AAP leader and spokesperson were able to count their achievements publicly. The awesome achievements were free electricity, free water, clean drinking water, Mohalla clinics, and up-gradation of government schools. News agencies also investigated and broadcasted the claims made by AAP and found it worthy.

NRC & CAA Issue- This was probably the biggest glitch for the BJP in this elections. Muslim community perceived it as a course of driving them out of India. Although, PM Modi clarified that NRC is just in NDA’s conscience and CAA were concerned with giving citizenship. But, provoked by opposition parties and opportunity bakers, the public didn’t accept the clarification by PM Modi.

Continuous Protests followed by Violent Clash- For the last 3-4 months, Delhi has become a hub for protestors and vandalizes. Started from JNU protest over fee hike, it all catches up to Jamia Millia Islamia and Aligarh Muslim University. BJP underestimated the power of ‘Divisive Politics’ and became the victim in this election. These protests were based on anti-BJP policies but it framed public into anti-BJP mindset.

The Weak State Leadership- BJP state leadership cannot stand anywhere in front of AAP state Leadership. Arvind Kejriwal, Manish Sisodia and Sanjay Singh is bigger personalities compared to one and only Manoj Tiwari. This time BJP made a mistake to rely on PM and HM for election campaigns because the circumstances were not the same.

Lack of mutual understanding- Probably, this was the similar way as BJP continued its power play in earlier election campaigns. But, this time lack of understanding between top leadership and state leadership was visible. Like other occasions, BJP called its Generals from other states too but all for nothing. It’s seemed that BJP didn’t want to talk on Delhi issues rather than focusing on national and bilateral issues.

The wretched image of BJP on the economic front- GDP down, unemployment on the rise, entrepreneurship opportunities missing, prices all-time high. The entire scenario is pointing on BJP for its harsh decisions being taken in terms of demonetization and GST.

The LG connection- Delhiites have seen how LG recklessness left them ungroomed. They realized that it was LG who had always thrown stones in Kejriwal’s way. They also analyzed as to where LG was getting the synergy. This all went against BJP in this Delhi politics.

The exit poll results are not true all the time but the eyes of the people don’t tell a lie. This time, Delhiites have voted for a government running on developmental issues. Though Modi is not less than a Hero on resolving contentious issues like Kashmir and Terrorism. But, at the same time, the economic appetite of the country went down which is why Delhi election results will going to be harsh for BPJ and supporters.
