Lockdown, Social-Distancing, Sanitization and Public Participation in flattening the COVID-19 Curve

Sanitization

Since November 2019 the coronavirus outbreak in Wuhan, China, it has been observed that there is no sure shot treatment for coronavirus infection. Many researches and studies indicate that prevention is the only idea to break the chain of infection. So far, certain drugs like hydroxychloroquine and paracetamol can be used to treat corona positive patients and plasma therapy in its early trial phase mostly the prevention measure is consolidating to deal with n-Cov-2.

The virus has been revealing new secrets of its behavior towards the worldly things daily. In the beginning, there were respiratory hazards, now it's up with digestive and neuro complexities. Obviously, the entire scene is so weird and dreadful.

The clinical trials on developing a vaccine/medicine are pretty good but as of now lockdown and sanitization are the effective ways to cope up with the novel coronavirus.

The last 5-6 months are evident that the governments have been focusing on lockdown, social distancing without public participation. From Italy to Spain this has also seen that lockdown is taking much time to flatten the curve which is why I advocate for public participation to kill the COVID-19.

In this regard, I have outlined the goals and achievements path to overcome the coronavirus pandemic. I am just trying to forget the treatment line of the solution here.

  • Goals

1. Saving lives
2. Maintaining the essential goods & services supply chain
3. Flattening the curve

  • Achievement Path

Lockdown with social distancing

Most of the world is under the influence of lockdown and practicing social distancing. This is the most effective way as of now. To break the chain of COVID-19, it is so important to be in lockdown as nothing else. Similarly, this is very important to distinguish between the lockdown and the successful lockdown.

  • A successful lockdown can be defined as the set of planned, strict and monitored environment of a geographical area which in any case, don't create panic and harassment among the people where the supply of essential commodities are abundant and a sense of economic hazard does not mount.

Massive awareness programs and lockdown

Not only the media, the living legends and icons should also share their views on the importance of lockdown and social distancing. A successful lockdown can have an advance planning or can be planned in due course.

Public participation and lockdown

The history is the evidence that the purpose of a revolution has not been accomplished fully without public participation. The authorities must find a way to engage the public in applying preventive measures. Be it cleanliness, sanitization or distancing, they should come up with online training, resources and motivation.

Sanitization and lockdown

Alone the government is not capable of carrying out mass sanitization work. Public participation is a pro-practice that every government should encourage its citizens.

But sanitization during this kind of pandemic has its own challenges. The people would be exposed to the risk of infection without proper training and know-how.

At least, it will be tremendously fruitful if they could sanitize their own homes, premises, streets, buildings, etc. for a certain time every day. The government should plan such things as prevention measures.

Creativity and Lockdown

Obviously, this is an unsocial situation to which we are not made of. This is like entering into a different world where the meaning of many things are changing fast. At this point in time, we can’t let our creativity go. The ways may be different but the quest isn’t resistible. The governments must push forward with this strategy and the people should cooperate.

Lockdown and the supply of essential goods and services

This is also one of the biggest challenges in front of the governments. Since the nature of virus spread is not specifically studied until now. We don’t know exactly how to implement the spread-free transportation system and packaging of the supply. The best way we know is to limit human gathering everywhere and the transport and delivery system of essentials is also not an exception.

The people and the government can apt for hygienic processing and packaging of essential goods or do a brainstorming for even a better way. The existing buying process is not going to support during the lockdown period, specifically in developing nations where people have time to visit shopping premises for their daily needs. The home to home delivery can be an effective way but in a short span of time, it is a challenge too.

What I am trying to outline is the clue to roll out the things.

How the COVID-19 curve should be supposed to be

COVID-19 Curve

So, the curve can be flattened in 3 ways which impact the rise of the infection and healthcare capacity threshold level. This is also important to analyze that as much the curve flattens so less the chances of infection of the rescue workers and time to overcome the pandemic.

Indeed, the ideal condition will be the Lockdown+SD+Sanitization+Public Participation. As we know that China has come out of the situation in three months so we believe that the ideal timeframe to come out is 3 months but a more proactive approach can also reduce the timeframe of the pandemic.
